L 566
Solution
To meet the required high demands, the company decided to
buy a high quality L 566 wheel loader from Liebherr. This was
purchased in spring 2013 and is now used in shifts of around
15 hours per day on seven days a week. The L 566 has to form
the material supplied from the mine, the paper factories and the
power plant into heaps and supply the box feeder continuously
with material. The feeding process alone involves transporting
around 800 tons of clay and 200 tons of additives over distanc-
es of up to 300 m.
Since the site is slippery after rain, the bene ts of the perma-
nent all-wheel drive really come to the fore. In addition the
0 to 45% self-locking differential is also used frequently. This
is electronically controlled and is activated automatically with-
out the driver having to do anything to ensure that the driving
forces can be maintained even in dif cult conditions so that
the driver can concentrate fully on high actual work. Another
way of improving traction on slippery surfaces is to reduce the
driving forces by regulating the tractive force. In this case the
driver can reduce the tractive force by up to 50% to prevent the
wheels spinning.
In dry weather, on the other hand, the site generates a very
large volume of dust. The benefi ts of the Liebherr wheel loader
once again shine in these conditions. The cooling system is at
the cleanest part of the machine, directly to the rear of the cab.
This ensures that the engine draws in air with a low dust con-
tent. In turn this reduces the cleaning intervals by up to eight
times compared to rival wheel loaders whose fan is mounted
on the rear of the machine.
Since the clay is essentially soil with very high adhesion forces,
the Liebherr wheel loader is fi tted with a special 4.0 m³ bucket.
The bucket has teeth and a screw-on wear blade and coated
with plastic on the inside. This coating reduces the adhesion of
the sticky clay and therefore saves lots of time during unload-
ing. The L 566 wheel loader stands out as a result of its econ-
omy and low fuel consumption of around 13.6 liters per hour.
In addition its low noise emissions ensures that the driver does
not suffer any discomfort.
To enhance safety the wheel loader has not only been fi tted
with a reversing camera and an acoustic reversing warning sys-
tem but also with an optical reversing warning system in the
form of red fl ashing LED lights which enhance visibility drasti-
cally, particularly when it is being used in the dark.
